Archived Layouts

There are three files associated with the database data layout work screen (prototype). They are:

File Name

FIELG

Created during the regeneration and is the current, live, design

As time progresses and you update your data fields, we recommend that you always archive your last design file until such time as you are satisfied with the regenerated results.

The following options from Configuration Menu involve archived design layouts:

Work with the active definition

A Work with Members Using PDM screen displays listing the active design layout file. You may change the text description using option 13 but should NOT change anything else as this is your live design layout.

92

Archive the active definition

An Archive Active Definition screen displays. The prompts will copy the active database definition to an archive file. By default, it will be copied to the archive file in the database library you are currently working in, but you can enter the name of any other ActionWare database library or archive file. The three prompts are, Name of archive file, library to place the file in, and description of the archived file so that it is recognizable from any others in the same library. The name of the archive file is always FIELA, you may choose the default library or place the file in any other ActionWare library, the description or name of the archived file is 10 characters long. We recommend your initials and a date. For example, SJK0912XX, that way you will know who archived the design and when.

93

Work with archived definitions

A Work with Members Using PDM screen displays with several options that can be used in the OPT column to effect the archived files. At distribution there are some sample designs besides the initial demo database design. You may choose to delete them by using OPT 4 (press enter) or you may simply note the desired file name and use it to restore the database design into the FIEL file. As time goes by your custom designs will appear on this list. You can manage their descriptions by using OPT 13 and keying a more detailed description than the one created by the system. We recommend a date as part of the description.

94

Restore an archived definition

A Restore an Archived Definition screen displays. The prompts will restore your selected archived database definition to the active FIEL file. By default, it will be copied from the archive file in the database library you are currently working in, but you can enter the name of any other ActionWare database library or archive file. Because you will totally replace your existing active definition with the definition from the archive file, a copy is automatically made of the existing definition in the archive file in this library under the name Uymmddhhmm. The three prompts are, Name of archive file, library to place the file in, and description of the archived file. The name of the archive file is always FIELA, you may choose the default library or place the file in any other ActionWare library, the description or name of the archived file is 10 characters long and can be found on the list using option 93 Work with archived definitions. You will need to run a full regeneration after selecting this option.

95

Restore the live definition

A Display Program Messages screen displays. Your options are G or C, Restore the definition as it was at the last regeneration. (G=go C=cancel). A G for go will take the last FIELG definition and restore it to the current FIEL file. It is recommended that you archive the current FIEL file before you use this option. You will need to run a full regeneration after selecting this option.
