To delete a Field ID you must view all data fields as a list, to do so press F4. This list is in Sequence # order and you may position to a particular Field ID or Sequence # if known. To delete a field ID key a 4 next to the desired field ID and press enter. There is NO undo, once a field is deleted it and all of the data in that Field ID is lost. If you delete fields you will have to rebuild the files using Regenerate.
You need to be very careful when you delete existing fields because of the data that might be in the field and or how the field might be used on another Data Layout. The data in the field might also be of historical importance. Review all data in a field by using a query product such as IBM's Query for the iSeries prior to deleting a field.
The following sample list starts with many of the System Protected Fields (but not all) and continues with custom designed Fields following. It is only a sample list and may not look like yours. Please note that in this sample list the System Administrator physically changed the Sequence #'s so that they were in order by type of Field.
